Installing KDE wallpaper add-ons in Kubuntu


After installing Kubuntu, I was a little disappointed after finding out that the default wallpaper set comprised only one wallpaper, and almost no add-ons like pattern, weather, etc,. Then, after a lot of searching, I discovered that all those goodies come wrapped in a nice debian package, which could be downloaded by issuing a single command. The package includes wallpapers like Air, Blue Curl, Flower Drops and more, along with wallpaper add-ons like Virus, Weather, Pattern etc,. Well now, isn’t that cool? Continue reading

Getting the complete Kubuntu Look


Kubuntu’s plymouth boot is definitely the most beautiful looking artwork to come out recently, second only to Fedora’s solar, but that said, the look is a bit inconsistent with Lucid’s other artwork like the splash screen, wallpaper and KDM. Fortunately enough, a few kontributors have helped me to sort out that issue by uploading some great KDM themes,wallpapers and splash screens which help making Lucid’s artwork much more consistent. Enabling the Ctrl Alt Backspace combo in KDE 4


Today, while toying around with the system settings menu in KDE 4.5, I noticed an option to enable the good old Ctrl+Alt+Backspace combo. It’s been a while since I’ve used that combination thanks to the stability KDE offers these days and, it wasn’t until I discovered it in the settings that I remembered using it a few years back. The combo, which allowed killing the X server is now disabled by default in many major Linux distributions. Continue reading

KDE 4.5 Screenshot Tour


KDE 4.5 is coming out in August but I simply couldn’t wait to try it out a few days before the release.
